You do not even need to write that summer is over. It is enough to close the window in the evening. Only a few hours earlier, the curtain was moving in the warm air, the skin still remembered the sun, and Ciepły Wiatr by Natalia Przybysz and Skubas began flowing from Spotify once again. After several repetitions, the song stopped being music chosen for the moment. It became the temperature of that moment itself.
The version preserved on the album Męskie Granie 2021 lasts more than six and a half minutes, yet it never feels stretched. It simply has no intention of hurrying. The rhythm does not lead you by the hand, but rocks you gently; the instruments leave space between them where the voices can draw closer, drift apart and find each other again. The ending frees itself from the compact form, as though the song also wanted to open the window wider and see where else the air might carry it.
Natalia Przybysz (vocals) sings with her characteristic tension, physical and restless at once. Her voice can be soft, but it is never passive; even in the gentlest phrases, you can feel its readiness to move. Skubas (vocals) enters lower, darker and closer to the ground. He does not sound like a guest added to a finished track, but like a second current of the same air. When they sing together, their voices do not dissolve into one perfectly polished sound. Each retains its own texture, so the meeting truly remains a meeting.
The warm wind is not a piece of weather decoration here. It signifies a change that may bring something, but may just as easily take something away. It offers no stability, only pushes us towards an unknown person, place or shape of ourselves. In this song, warmth does not protect us from risk. On the contrary, it lets us stop defending ourselves against it for a moment. We release what we have been clutching and only then notice that we are not falling. We are still being carried.
Perhaps that is why the track endured being played on repeat so well when genuinely warm air was moving beyond the open window. There was another kind of warmth in the room, impossible to measure with a thermometer: somebody's closeness, the calm weight of another body, a breath beside which there was no need to invent the next sentence. The song blended with all of it so completely that, after a while, it became difficult to tell whether it described the moment or whether the moment had begun arranging itself according to the song.
Putting music on repeat can be an attempt to stop time with exceptionally modest means. The same beginning, the same chorus, the same voice returning after a few minutes. Yet nothing truly repeats. Each time, the light enters the room from a different angle, the air becomes a little cooler and another person's presence settles more deeply into memory. The song remains the same, but the person listening to it moves along with the evening.
The last day of August does not close summer with one sudden gesture. At noon, the sun still behaves as though entire weeks lie ahead. Only later does the first cooler breath arrive, the shadow moves across the wall more quickly and an open window ceases to be obvious. Ciepły Wiatr lands exactly in this moment. It does not take anything away yet, but reminds us that every temperature is temporary.
What remains, however, is music capable of preserving warmth more precisely than a calendar, a photograph or a weather forecast. You only need to play the song again for the curtain to move, the air to return and a presence that does not need to be named to reappear. The window can already be closed. The warm wind stays inside anyway.
